About the Author

Julian Laderman

Dr. Julian Laderman is a retired mathematics and computer science professor (Lehman College, City University of New York). He is a two-time winner of the American Bridge Teachers’ Association Book of the Year Award, winning for A Bridge to Simple Squeezes in 2006 and A Bridge to Inspired Declarer Play in 2009. His book on the history of bridge, Bumblepuppy Days, received the Alan Truscott Memorial Award from the International Bridge Press Association in 2016. For many years he wrote the bridge column for The Bronx Journal.

"Laderman takes a fresh approach with 40 problem deals. The author gives a gently paced explanation of the correct line of play, covering the problems you should spot and why a particular solution should work. He finishes with the name of the play required and a list of the inspirational features. He concludes each example with a 'create deal exercise' with which he invites the reader to modify the deal so that declarer has to take a slightly different line to achieve a similar goal. I like the author's writing style a lot and when next I am in the New York area (which admittedly may not be for a while!) I am sure I shall try to make contact."
