O’Connor established himself as a leading author for beginning players with his first book, A First Book of Bridge Problems, which won the American Bridge Teachers’ Association Book of the Year award in 2012. Almost all players defend worse than they declare or bid. Most partnerships discuss bidding but not defense. This is wrong, because you defend twice as often as you declare and almost as often as you bid. If you would like a primer on basic defense, buy this book.
