About the Book
Slam bidding is perhaps the most exciting part of bridge, but at the same time it is the most technically challenging. The rewards for success are high, but so are the penalties for failure. As a launching pad, the author introduces some useful agreements and conventions. After that, he addresses how to decide whether to try for slam, and how to investigate via cuebidding. More direct and advanced techniques, competitive auctions and a final quiz make up the remainder of the book. Studying this book will make for a smooth transition to becoming an effective slam bidder.

Treble starts with the ingredients needed to look for a slam in both balanced and unbalanced hands. He also discusses how slam bidding has changed over the years.
In particular, this applies to the cue-bidding process where the European methods seems to be a little ahead of the North American ones, if the success of the Italian Blue Team is anything to go by.
Major-suit, minor-suit, and notrump auctions receive discussion of treatments peculiar to themselves. He also spends time discussing when to move quickly toward slam and when to use more sophisticated methods.
As with his previous book, Treble has included lots of practice hands. And, once again, these are perhaps the most satisfying feature of the book.
