RON BEALL (Bellingham, WA) is a Diamond Life Master who has won over dozens of regional pair and team events and one major national championship (Six Session National Open Swiss Teams). He is the author of several articles on bidding in the ACBL Bridge Bulletin and in The Bridge World Ron lives with his wife Jennifer (Ruby Life Master) and Darth (Vader), his adorable toy poodle.
Doug Bennion is the creator of Barbara Seagram’s software, Practice Your Notrump Bidding and Practice Your Slam Bidding, published by Master Point Press. He wrote and published Bridge Buff, a popular early bridge-playing program, and Visual Deal, a popular early deal generator. He is also the author of several Bridge World articles.
LYNN BERG (Florida) has been a member of the ACBL for over 55 years. In that time she has been a player (Sapphire LM), a club manager and director, a director and teacher on cruises, a Tournament Director, a unit and district official, head of ACBL's Education Foundation, a teacher and a bridge writer. She contributes monthly to the ACBL Bridge Bulletin and is currently club manager for the Deland Bridge Club. She also enjoys reading, knitting, gardening, cooking and any kind of travel. She likes to say, "If I am in the room, someone is having a good time!"
DAN BERKLEY is a Canadian professional consulting engineer who found a passion for bridge in the late 1960s. He made time to run bridge clubs, play and teach bridge both online and offline. He is an ACBL accredited bridge teacher and an accredited Learn Bridge in One Day? instructor, teaching Standard American and his simplified and modernized version of Blue Club. Jonathan Berry is a Canadian chess expert who has attained FIDE master rank. He writes a weekly chess column in Canada's national newspaper, The Globe and Mail. He lives on Vancouver Island, in Canada.
David Bird (Southampton, UK) is the world's most prolific bridge writer, with 150 bridge books to his name. Known for the clarity of his writing and explanations, he has won the American Bridge Teachers' Association Book of the Year Award a record nine times. His celebrated humorous fiction series, featuring the cantankerous Abbot, has run for over 45 years.
ROSEMARY BODEN (Florida) has sailed as the Bridge Instructor on six World Cruises and has spent more than two years at sea in the past six years, visiting more than 80 countries (but only the coastal cities). She has sailed as part of the Enrichment Team on Celebrity, Crystal, Cunard, Holland America, Princess, Royal Caribbean and Seabourn. She loves them all. When not teaching on luxury cruise ships, Rosemary lives in Florida where she is an accredited teacher at The Fort Lauderdale Bridge Club.
Émile Borel (1871-1956) made contributions to mathematics, it can be argued, that introduced our era of probabilistic, quantitative decision making, so adaptable to the computer and thereby so pervasive today. He published more than fifty papers on probability between 1905 and 1950. Between 1921 and 1927 he published papers on game theory and was first to define games of strategy, publishing various papers and finally, Applications aux jeux de hazard in 1938, of which this book formed a part.
TERRY BOSSOMAIER (New South Wales) was a keen and successful tournament bridge player in his student years in the UK. He put bridge on hold when he went to Australia -- to learn to surf (never happened) and to sail (sort of happened), but instead became professor of computer science and complex systems.
Tim Bourke is a world-renowned collector and creator of interesting bridge
hands, which he regularly supplies to authors such as David Bird and David
Silver. He also personally owns what is probably the world's largest bridge
library and is often consulted as an expert on matters of bridge
bibliography. He lives with his wife Margaret, an Australian international
player, in Canberra, Australia.
Sally Brock, who lives in High Wycombe, England, won her third world
championship title in Beijing, in October 2008. She has written and/or
edited a number of books, and is the bridge correspondent for the London
Sunday Times.
Gary Brown is a Canadian who now lives in Melbourne, Australia, where he runs the Brown School of Bridge. A successful tournament player, he is also an experienced high school teacher, an ideal background for his current profession. A regular columnist for two bridge magazines, he is already working on his next book.
TOMEK BRUS (Translator) was born in Warsaw, Poland and emigrated to Great Britain in 1972, where he obtained a PhD in theoretical Statistics. He has worked at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Bristol University, Pfizer Pharmaceutical Company and Oxford Brookes University.
David Burn, of London, England, is a systems programmer and bridge
journalist. He is also regularly found at European and World Championships
as coach of one or more of the England teams.
Bill Buttle (1940-2020) was a former dentist who took up drawing cartoons post-retirement. His 'Two's a Crowd' and 'Double Bill' features have been syndicated in newspapers across Canada. Bill's bridge humor was familiar to North Americans since it appears regularly in the ACBL's monthly Bridge Bulletin (circulation approx. 200,000).
