PATRICK DARRICADES (Canada) learned to play bridge as a teenager but quickly became more interested in the theory of the game than in playing it competitively. His studies of the statistical work of J-R. Vernes (conceptor of The Law of Total Tricks) led to his first book Optimal Hand Evaluation.
Hugh Darwen (UK) ran monthly double dummy contests for the last fifty years in numerous magazines, including Bridge magazine, International Popular Bridge Monthly, and Bridge Plus. These have continued, informally, at his website www.doubledummy.net.
Allan DeSerpa is a professor of economics at Arizona State University. He continually dabbles in bridge bidding theory and, every ten years or so, he writes a book. Other titles include The Mexican Contract (1980) and Principles of Logical Bidding (1997). His motivation for writing Sixpack? He woke up one morning and decided that the sixth keycard deserved more respect.
Dr. Andrew Diosy (1924-2012) was a physician specializing in internal medicine, whose hobbies included bridge and chess. Born in Hungary, he moved to Canada after the Hungarian uprising in 1957, and lived in Toronto, Ontario.
Ned Downey is the owner/operator of the Maui Bridge Club, in Kihei, Hawaii
and an ACBL accredited Star teacher. He teaches regularly in his club and on
board cruise ships.
MARY ANN DUFRESNE (Florida) is a retired U.S. government project manager. She lives in Weeki Wachee — mermaid country — with her beloved
menagerie of furry dependents, and is a full-time bridge teacher.
